We are building a federation of independent Living Labs: places where people put these ideas into practice. Each Lab chooses its own way of working, and we share what we learn.

The place where you live can also be the place you restore.
How we live, work and make decisions affects one another and the land. Making those choices together can help us build a good life that also benefits soil, water and biodiversity. We want to make that possible in practice.
Restore
Care for soil, water and biodiversity becomes part of everyday life. We connect it with local knowledge, work and relationships. In each place, we establish what is needed and how to track change.

Learn
We try things, observe what really happens and adjust. We share experiences, decisions and results, including what does not work. Each new place can then build on what others learn.

The ideas give direction. We are building a network of independent Labs that want to learn from one another. The Charter sets out their shared foundations; people in each place decide how to apply them in their own situation.

SYFERS is our open framework for communities and cooperatives to organise their work and learn from it. It connects ecological restoration with shared living and a healthy economy. Practical tools help you make decisions, involve people and record what happens. The group’s experience can then support new members and other places.

We share with respect for privacy. Records make the work traceable; claims about effects and permissions require their own evidence and expertise.
Lasting care needs healthy foundations
A healthy economy sustains restoration.
Good work needs to last. Income from services, training or accommodation, for example, can pay people and sustain long-term care for a place. Each Lab investigates which activities suit the place, are feasible and can be permitted.
This calls for committed funders: people who want to help build social and ecological value alongside a financially healthy project. With patience, clear agreements and room to learn from practice.

The work began in May 2023 at Sulitânia in southern Portugal. Cooperativa Integral Sulitânia, CRL was registered in June 2025. Experience in living together, cooperating and caring for land informs Syntrociety’s development.
That experience gives us questions and lessons to work with. We keep investigating what works, which effects can be demonstrated and what the next place needs.
