§ Contribution in your perspective

5 min read

Where do you recognise yourself in this work?

Federation work touches every layer of the ecosystem differently. What becomes visible from an administrator's perspective is not what a researcher reads, or what a Lab resident does daily. Pick where you stand, or read on at your own pace.

§ Choose a perspective

From which role are you looking at this work?

Several roles can fit. Choosing none is also legitimate, the broader story remains available on /contribution.

§ Before you choose

A short note before you pick.

Federation work happens because this kind of work needs to be done. That it touches what administrators, Labs, entrepreneurs, citizens and researchers care about in different ways is consequence, not goal.

Anyone who comes here to get something usually does not find what they look for. Anyone who comes to see whether something resonates with what they themselves carry sees, on its own, where the work meets their own work.

With that caveat: pick above the perspective closest to where you stand.

§ From a research perspective

What federation work touches in research.

For academics and researchers in regenerative socio-economic models, methodology, cooperative governance, territorial resilience, or adjacent fields.

What comes into view

An operational case, publicly documented

Sulitânia has been an operational cooperative under Portuguese law since 2023. Sixteen members, seven nationalities, registered as Cooperativa Integral with fiscal activity. The functions as a Living Lab in the sense ENoLL and ENEI 2030 use the term: lived practice, not laboratory situation.

The infrastructure (lens.syfers.eu) records decisions and developments in citable entries with date and identifier. The architecture is designed with ORRI principles in mind. The material is therefore usable for case studies, methodological descriptions, and comparative analyses with adjacent models: Transition Towns, ecovillages, other cooperative federations in Europe.

What federation work returns to research

Access, partnership, room

The foundational documents are public: , , Lens, Implementation Gap. Beyond that, there is room for guest research, short or long, with direct access to practice and the people who carry it. For consortia around regenerative development, social economy, or baixa densidade in a Horizon Europe context, federation is an operational partner with field knowledge.

Federation work falls explicitly within what AP Portugal 2030, Algarve 2030, ENEI 2030, and EU frameworks around ORRI support. For research that works with these instruments, this is a practical fit.

Honest limit

What federation work is not for research

Not every practice in a Lab is scientifically structured. Much of it is work that escapes formal methodology and must escape it to remain workable. Anyone expecting peer-reviewable data on everything that happens will be disappointed.

Cooperation is reciprocal. The Lab benefits from research that looks carefully; research benefits from the Lab as field. Neither is supplier to the other.

First step

Look at SYFERS at https://lens.syfers.eu and read the Charter and Practice. For a research question or consortium idea, contact via /contact.

Federation work happens on its own. What is readable here per role describes how that work relates to different perspectives, not what federation promises anyone.

For the broader story about what federation work contributes to the whole ecosystem, see /contribution. For the legal context: /implementation-gap. For what federation as a whole is: /about and /alignment.
